Training and support for bus and coach drivers

The safety of children on ‘the school run’ is of paramount concern to operators, drivers, education authorities, school governors, teachers, parents and pupils themselves. A training package has been developed by BUSK ( Belt Up Schoolchildren ) and Minimise Your Risk. This course may well attract funding from various sources.

These are the forerunner of the proposed EU training directive, which will be introduced from 2008, provided the appropriate UK legislation is passed in 2006.

They are based on the guidance contained in the HSE booklet (INDG382) ‘Driving at work – managing work-related road safety’. All bus and coach operators have a legal responsibility to act on the guidance as it is a risk assessment.
